LCiotyof
Louisville
Historical Museum
Memorandum
To: Historical Commission
From: Bridget Bacon, Museum Services Supervisor
Date: March 8, 2022
Re: Museum Services Supervisor's Report
Welcome to new Commission member Shelley Angell!
The City has announced that board and commission meetings for the City of Louisville are
to start meeting in person in April. For the Commission, this means that the next meeting,
on May 18, will be in -person in the Library Meeting Room.
Keith Keller plans to join the Commission's March 16 meeting as the liaison from the
Historic Preservation Commission.
At times, the Museum collects artifacts from within the City of Louisville, and this is treated
as "collected by staff" under the Collections Management Policy since the City owns the
Museum (as opposed to there being a Deed of Gift that I present to the Commission for
acceptance). Recently, the Police Department gave the Museum one of the two damaged
flags that were on the flagpole by the Police Station on the day of the Marshall Fire. The PD
kept the American flag and is having it conserved and will eventually display it at the Police
Station, and gave the Museum its damaged Colorado flag for the Museum to conserve and
eventually display. The Museum staff is very grateful to have this flag that will help tell the
story of that day's events, and the City will share more information as both flags go
through the conservation process.
The Museum staff has been working on community recovery in the aftermath of the fire, as
well as collecting stories to preserve for the future. Information about the Museum's
projects and events to preserve history after the Marshall Fire is on the Museum website
and in the most recent Louisville Historian that was mailed last month.
Due to the pandemic and not wanting to invite a lot of people into the Museum's small
buildings, the Museum staff has been waiting for warm weather before participating in the
First Friday Art Walks again, but we are gearing up for the Museum to be one of the stops
on the May 6t" Art Walk and we are planning to use the Museum Courtyard for people who
would prefer to be outside. And we'll keep our fingers crossed for nice weather!
