BLUE PARROT ROBBERY Hayor Meier requested Director of Public Safety Leesman give a report, as suggested by Councilman Leary, on the type of patrols that are presently being done and possible things we may do in the future in the down- town business area. Director Leesman Advised that he had a meeting with some of the business men in the downtown area, as well as Mark Adams, general manager of the LDC. Business men expressed some concerns relative to the police coverage in the downtown business area. He has instructed staff to see that there is more foot patrol for more visibility in the area. During the meeting he was asked if there was a business watch program which existed, such as a neighborhood watch program. He advised the business men such a plan is being initiated by his department; a slide program has been received which was previously ordered, as relates to this program and have reviewed it. Indicated to Mr. Adams and the Chamber of Commerce members that they wished to meet with them, give them a presentation of the program, and work in a cooperative effort in the downtown business area. Advised there were other items that would be done, but would not elaborate "because he did not want the buglars to know what these are." Councilman Cummings Inquired if he had a manpower problem at that shift or at that time. Leesman replied they had two people working; this should be taken care of with the hiring of two additional patrolmen soon. Councilman Fauson Inquired if there had been foot patrol in the downtown area previously, to check doors, alleyways, etc. Leesman advised to some extent and would increase this practice when the new men are hired.
