Mayor Meier

Councilman Leary

Mayor Meier

Ward Redistricting - Discussion
Feb. 1st Agenda

BOULDER COUNTY LAND
ACQUISITION

1/18/83

Page -20-

Remarked he could see no problem with lines
be drawn by the Planning Dept. if the popu-
lation is evenly distributed between the
3 wards.
Wurl advised that the green lines were the
old ones and the black lines were new.
The map as presented showed the lack of 245
people in Ward I to balance the population.
Wurl stated the concept as presented repre-
sented a simple readjustment, not a total
change, as people when voting do not favor
changing polling places. The map also re-
flected projections that the Planners anti-
cipate would transpire between now and Oct.
1, 1983.

Remarked that the Trailer Court was added
to Ward I and Hillsborough West has been
added to Ward II - didn't feel this was
an even division.
Wurl advised this was done because there
are many more people in Ward III.
Attorney Rautenstraus advised also many more
people had been added in Ward I since the
last Ward map, vvith the Mesa Point and
Continental Vievv Subdivisions, and there
are a projected 30 units to be added to
these subdivisions.
Rautenstraus also advised the map could
be reviewed by Council - the law requires
that the reapportionment be done 6 months
prior to the election.

Concurred with Administrator Wurl's statement
that keeping thE~ wards relatively the same
does tend to alleviate confusion at election
time with people going to the wrong polling
place and end up not voting.

Mayor Meier requested this item be placed
on the February 1, 1983 agenda.

Administrator Wurl stated since this item
was not discussed at the recent study session
he had not contacted the County to see if
they would extend the proposal. His recom-
mendation was for council to authorize the
acquisition of the property.
