11/17/81 Page -7- Councilman DelPizzo Administrator Wurl stated that Council had requested the possibility of lease- purchasE~ funding for the proj ect and Engineer Blanchard would answer any questions they may have. Inquired why there would be 6 months time to get the signal installed. Engineer Blanchard advised that the con- troller feature of the signal light had been back-ordered for this length of time. Wurl advised that if Council is in agree- ment with the proposal on the lease-purchase plan, authorization is required for Centen- nial Engineering to draw up the plans and specifications. Councilman Cummings Inquired if authorization was given for steps 3) Preparation of technical speci- fications and contract documents and 4) Installation of the signal hardware itself, now, did this mean the 50' median island could be constructed immediately. Engineer Blanchard advised this would be a separate project. AUTHORIZATION APPROVAL Councilman DelPizzo moved that the City Engineer be authorized to contact Centen- nial Engineering to begin irmnediately on the preparation of technical specifications and contract documents for the traffic signal installation at South Boulder Road and Main Street/Centennial Drive; and use the lease-purchase method of funding. Seconded by Councilman Meier. Question called for. All in favor. Motion carried 4-0. MEDIAN ISLANDS Administrator Wurl advised that Council also wished Engineer Blanchard to review a type of safety median island of 50' ; cost would be $3,250.00. Mr. Wurl's recom- mendation would be to do the larger median island at a cost of $6,875.00 from Main St. to Centennial Drive. Councilman DelPizzo Stated it was his opinion that all the median islands should be done from Hain St. to Garfield Ave. on South Boulder Road at one time, thus. avoiding higher costs later.
