Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
March 21, 2022
Bauer explains potential goals the commission could have for 2022. The goals could
include the following:
• Public outreach projects such as the coloring book
• Reviewing online information provided on the City's website
• Develop new or updated advertisement materials for explaining and celebrating
the HPF program
• Complete historic survey project
• Residential grant amounts
• Grant requirements
• Old Town Overlay Zone District
The commissioners discuss which goals would be beneficial and how to prioritize them.
They would like to continue with a coloring book as well as working with the museum to
do a walking tour. Having a booth at the farmers market would also help promote the
preservation program.
The commissioners mention updating the City's website and the importance of giving
updates on landmarked properties such as an updated landmark map. They speak on
the possibility of having a social media presence in order to advertise the events they
are doing and communicate new information. They would also like new brochures to
give to the public describing the program and giving more information about it. They
mention the possibility of following up with homeowners who have landmarked and
getting their feedback on how the process was.
The commission discuss the need for a separate meeting in the next two -three months
in order to review the grant amounts and requirements.
Subcommittee Updates
Bauer says the subcommittee has not received any alteration certificate reviews but
has received one demolition review for 301 Pine St. She explains what that review
entailed for this property.
Landmark Plaque Ceremony Planning
Bauer says the commission will have three plaques to give out so far for this year. She
asks when the commissioners would like to give out the plaques. She also asks if they
would like to handout the plaques in a singular spot like the museum.
Haley asks if May is preservation month.
Bauer says that is correct.
Haley says May is when the commissioner would give out all the plaques. She thinks
May would be great to give out the plaques because of preservation month. She also
thinks that she prefers going to each property to give them their plaque.
The other commissioners agree with Haley on when to give out the plaques. They also
agree that the plaques should be given at each property.
Haley mentions doing a before and after celebration at the museum. Another option is
after the plaques are given at each home, there could be a celebration at the museum.
