The State also advised that the City of Louisville had been taken from the budget as of July 1, 1981, and therefore would not make any electrical inspections after this date. Each cowlcil member had a copy of the amendment for his review and Attorney Joss read it in its entirety. Councilman Fauson Mayor Caranci inquired who would do the electrical inspections for the City. Director Rupp advised that someone would be hired on a contractural type basis - and do the inspections on an as-call basis. A proposal is being developed whereby the city would collect a portion of the electrical permit fee and the contracted electrical inspector would collect a portion. The person selected would have to meet all the qualifications the state requires. No one had been selected as yet. Inquired about liability for faulty electrical inspections. Attorney Joss advised that the City Liability Policy would cover this, but it was his opinion that the City was not accepting any additional liability. REMARKS Mayor Caranci Discussion was held with council members and audience as to the advantages of having someone locally for more timely inspections; suggestions made to have someone other than a local contractor to avoid conflict of in- terest. Tom Thompson Stated he was a local electrical contractor and commented that sometimes the national electrical code is interpreted differently by various municipalities - it was his suggestions that the City adopt the State Electrical Code standards as they are more clearly defined. Discussion by council and staff to add an additional amendment at a later date to include State standards to National Electrical Code - Ordinance 41719.
