<br />Councilman Domenico <br /> <br />DELETE PARAGRAPH 17.24.240 <br />OF ORDINANCE #715 <br /> <br />BILLBOARDS <br /> <br />Councilman DelPizzo <br /> <br />Councilman Meier <br /> <br />4/7/81 <br /> <br />Page -5- <br /> <br />compliance with the sign code would be <br />advised of the new sign code and would <br />give them 3 years to comply. <br />Inquired how much were the present signs <br />off according to the new regulations? <br />Director Rupp advised that he had taken <br />a survey and there are approximately 20 <br />signs that do not meet the present code. <br />It was the Planning Commission's recom- <br />mendation that the non-conforming signs <br />be brought into conformance 3 years after <br />the ordinance has been past. <br />Discussion was held regarding s~gns, revi- <br />talization of the downtown area and the <br />uniqueness of some of the signs. <br />Councilman Carnival moved to delete para- <br />graph 17.24.240, page 19, of Ordinance # <br />715 "Nonconforming Signs." Seconded by <br />Councilman Domenico. Roll call vote: <br />Domenico - Yes <br />Fauson - No <br />DelPizzo - No <br />Meier - No <br />Carnival - Yes <br />Motion defeated 3-2. <br /> <br />Director Rupp brought attention to the sec- <br />tion in the sign code pertaining to billboards <br />which had been included, specifing where <br />they are permitted in the City. <br /> <br />Mayor Caranci inquired if there was anyone <br />in the audience supporting Ordinance #715. <br />None. Anyone opposed - none. <br /> <br />Inquired if the grandfather clause would <br />apply to the existing signs. <br />Director Rupp explained that the motion had <br />been defeated, consequently it did not apply. <br />Attorney Joss explained the way the amend- <br />ment is written, this is no grandfather clause, <br />and if the ordinance was passed as written <br />all new signs were have to conform, and <br />existing signs would have to conform by <br />April 1, 1984. <br />Referred to section 17.24.19 "Exemptions." <br />Moved to add =In. under this section, signs <br />that are deemed architecturally unique, per <br />criteria set by the City Council and an <br />
