Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
June 20, 2022
Werner -Hudson gives the commission her background with this property and how
much she enjoys the house. She does not want this house to be torn down or changed.
Commissioner Questions of Applicant:
None is heard.
Public Comment:
None is heard.
Discussion by Commissioners:
Haley says this application meets our criteria. It has strong architectural integrity and a
strong social significance.
Burg says this is a great house to preserve and is a strong candidate for this program.
Dunlap says there was some effort to change some style for this house but the basic
integrity of the building is still prevalent. The original family of the property has history
and significance to the City of Louisville.
Burg moves and Keller seconds a motion to approve the request to find probable
cause for a landmark designation to allow for funding of a historic structure assessment
for 701 McKinley Avenue. Motion passes unanimously by a roll call vote.
STAFF UPDATES
Updates Memo
Bauer mentions that June 28 is the plaque ceremony, where staff will present four
plaques starting at 501 Jefferson Ave.
Landmark Plaque Ceremony Planning
Bauer
COMMISSIONER UPDATES
Dunlap asks what staffing will look like for the commission and asks what upcoming
events are taking place. He asks how many houses have made it from probable cause
to actual landmarking. He wants to look closer to see if there are obstacles going from
probable cause to landmarking.
Haley says that it sounds like many applicants go through probable cause but they do
not have to correct? They can go straight to landmarking.
Bauer says probable cause is required to go through first.
Haley mentions her reasoning for why she thought probable cause was not a
requirement.
Zuccaro says the HSA is necessary for the grant but not for the landmark.
Haley mentions that you can always landmark and then do the HSA.
Dunlap says some architects do not have time on their schedule in order to actually
landmark.
Haley points out that if they do not do probable cause, they would go straight to
landmarking and the process would be much quicker.
Zuccaro says he would like to have staff research it more and come back at the next
meeting with better direction and insight.
