Sustainability Advisory Board Meeting Minutes
August 17, 2022
September. The budget amendment and contract is scheduled on
Council's consent agenda for October 18, 2022.
Louisville Reusable Bags:
• Louisville has been offering bags to grocery stores, and we only have a
few boxes left.
7. Discussion Item: Energy Code Update Letter of Support
Kayla summarized 4 potential commercial and multifamily energy code policy
pathways for the City Council to consider. Kayla's presentation is contained in the
8/17/22 meeting agenda packet. The four pathways summarized are as follows:
Option 1: Regional Code Cohort (make a roadmap for net zero by 2030 or 2035,
but it's not enforceable)
Option 2: Adopt one of the three following policies:
• Policy 1: Energy Performance Goal. This option would entail adopting
Energy Use Intensity (EUI) targets for different commercial and multifamily
building segments. Although this option does not require all -electric new
construction or net -zero energy status, buildings would likely need to
adopt heat pump and heat pump water technology if the City adopts
stringent EUI targets.
• Considerations:
• No net zero requirement.
• No offsite PV required.
• Allows for use of extra efficiency and/or renewable energy to
meet target.
• Encourages all -electric construction.
• More flexibility with fuel choice and energy use reduction
methods.
• Solar -ready required.
• EV-ready required.
• Electric -ready construction.
3
