ARBOR DAY PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, Arbor Day means more than a designation of a <br />particular day. It should carry with it a desire and purpose to add <br />beauty and home -like appearance to the landscape by planting and <br />taking care of trees, which constitute one of the greatest achieve- <br />ments of nature; and, <br />WHEREAS, a landscape devoid of trees offers no haven for <br />those seeking rest and shade. When the first settlers came to <br />eastern Boulder County, they naturally were lured along the streams <br />and valleys where trees provided shelter. As settlements grew, more <br />and more trees were planted until the treeless plains took on a new <br />beauty; and, <br />WHEREAS, trees are essential to life. Without them, the <br />surface of the earth would be bare and drab. In planting and taking <br />care of a tree, you are making an invaluable contribution to the lives <br />of future generations; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, Lawrence P. Caranci, Mayor of the City <br />of Louisville, Colorado, do hereby proclaim April 22, 1981, as ARBOR <br />DAY in Louisville and urge that it be made a special occasion by the <br />people of the City of Louisville for planting trees and shrubs and <br />for encouraging continued maintenance thereof, thus making our <br />community a better place in which to live. <br />DATED this 21st day of April, 1981. <br />Mayor <br />Attest: <br />City Clerk <br />
