Minutes - page 8
August 21, 1979

Cederberg: about what I said and I want at least one of you to stand
up.
Now I don't want this to sound like a eulogy for this conrrnunity, be-
cause this isn't a wake, it's not a funera.l, it's not a burial, the
reason it's not is because when you bury somebody you can walk away
and you can try to forget, but this is something that we will never
be able to forget and you will not be able to forget. Now I don't
think I am wasting my time tonight because no matter how much City
slicker gloss, Don Kahan, can try to rub off on you and no matter
how euphoric Leon Wurl can make you with the promises of granduer
he hold out like projects such as this I think that each elected
official in this conrrnunity has a conscienous and you are not going
to be able to forget what you are doing tonight, you are going to
have to remember that. Come November, come future decisions to be
made by the people of this conrrnunity, there is goi.ng to be no where
to hide, no way to forget, so in concluding, I would like to say
that I hope all of you get, Mr. Kahan, people in the community that
are for the mall, City Council, I hope that you get whatever it is
that you want out of this project because many of us our paying a
tremendous price.

Waschak: Thank you. Okay is there anyone else that wish to say.
You relinquished your time.

You get four minutes Mr. McKee.

McKee: Perhaps what I have to say is a little anticlimatic tonight,
for the record Don McKee, 1045 LaFarge.
I guess I get back to some of the hard questions and I'm sure Mr.
Kahan will agree that he would not want his shopping center to burn
down, so my question concern the fire department.
I am a professional engineer and I subscribe to an engineering philosophy
that holds that you only have knowledge of a subject when you can
express it in numbers, and so in light of that I would like to ask
how many fire trucks will be required, when will they be required,
what kind will be required, how much 'tITill they cost, how big a fire
house will be required, what special equipment will be required in
that fire house, how much will it cost when will it be required,
how many volunteer firemen will be required what kind of special training
will they need and how much will that cost? Can we expect to draw
enough volunteer firemen from the populations that will exsist as the
various stages go ahead. And what about professional firemen, will
they then be required, if so how much salary will we have to pay
how many will it be when do we have to havE~ them.
On the other side of the coin. What kind of revenues can we expect, or
can the fire district expect to receive, from the property taxes
and will those cover the various expenses a.nd if not what sort of
financing will be required what alternatives are there?
Can anyone answer those questions? I am prepared to stand here and
get an answer.

Waschak: City staff do you mind answering.
