Child Abuse Awareness & Prevention Month <br /> April 2006 <br /> WHEREAS, child abuse and neglect are recognized as significant and pressing problems <br /> affecting the health, welfare and quality of life of children residing in Boulder <br /> County; and <br /> WHEREAS, victims of child abuse and neglect are known to be at higher risk for experiencing <br /> post traumatic stress syndrome, depression, low academic achievement, drug use, <br /> juvenile delinquency, teenage pregnancy and adult criminality; and <br /> WHEREAS, 3,277 reports of neglect and physical, emotional, and sexual abuse and were <br /> received by the Boulder County Department of Social Services, Division of Child <br /> Protection Services, in the year 2004; and <br /> WHEREAS, the rate of child abuse in Boulder County exceeded the rate reported in the State <br /> of Colorado and in the nation in 2000; and <br /> WHEREAS, it is a priority of Boulder County law enforcement agencies, the District <br /> Attorney's Office, the Department of Social Services, and Mental Health and <br /> Victim Service Providers to gain the cooperation and participation of the public in <br /> preventing cases of child abuse and in assisting in the investigation and <br /> prosecution of suspected child abuse offenders; and <br /> WHEREAS, Blue Sky Bridge Child& Family Advocacy Program is committed to breaking the <br /> cycle of child abuse by bringing together professionals and agencies as a <br /> multidisciplinary team to create a child-focused approach to sexual abuse <br /> investigations and by conducting education programs in the community. <br /> Now, therefore, I, Mayor Charles Sisk, do hereby proclaim April 2006 as Child Abuse <br /> Awareness and Prevention Month in Louisville and encourage all citizens to help prevent <br /> future cases of child abuse in Boulder County <br /> 4th day of April, 2006 <br /> 4�0� •,' fiO4- <br /> • <br /> co O; Charles L.
