St. Louis Catholic School <br /> 100-Year Centennial Celebration <br /> October 2005 <br /> WHEREAS, in 1904, Reverend Father Cyril Rettger applied to the St. Benedict Convent in Erie, <br /> Pennsylvania for sisters to staff his new school in Colorado; and, <br /> WHEREAS, his request was granted and five Benedictine Nuns embarked on a venture into the far <br /> West; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the St. Louis School and Business College opened in October 1905 with an enrollment of <br /> 200 students; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the school could afford only one textbook, the Baltimore Catechism, which was also used <br /> as a reader and a speller; and, <br /> WHEREAS, St. Louis Catholic School has provided spiritual nourishment to many Louisville families; <br /> and, <br /> WHEREAS, St. Louis Catholic School has been an integral part of the Louisville community; and, <br /> WHEREAS, under the current leadership of Father Tim Gaines and Principal Don Middleton, today's <br /> enrollment stands at 300 students in preschool through grade eight; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the St. Louis Catholic School is celebrating its 100-year anniversary in October 2005. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that I, Charles L. Sisk, Mayor of the City of Louisville, <br /> Colorado, along with the City Council do hereby join St. Louis Catholic School in celebration of its 100 <br /> Years of Excellence and recognize the many contributions it has made to our community. <br /> DATED this 1 S`day of October, 2005 <br /> OUISVj� �4 11 <br /> f O.r' ••..F ��, Charles L.
