Colorado Tartan Day <br /> April 6, 2005 <br /> WHEREAS, April 6 has a special significance for all Americans, and especially those Americans of <br /> Scottish descent,because the Declaration of Arbroath, the Scottish Declaration of <br /> Independence was signed on April 6, 1320 and the American Declaration of Independence <br /> was modeled on that inspirational document; and, <br /> WHEREAS, Governors in nine of the original thirteen States were of Scottish ancestry, Scottish <br /> Americans successfully helped shape this country in its formative years and guide this <br /> Nation through its most troubled times; and, <br /> WHEREAS, between 1820 and 1930, more than seven hundred thousand Scottish people immigrated to <br /> the United States and today there are over one hundred ninety-six thousand people of <br /> Scottish ancestry living in Colorado alone; and, <br /> WHEREAS, to recognize individuals of Scottish descent who have distinguished themselves <br /> throughout history with their inventions, discoveries and accomplishments, including <br /> Alexander Graham Bell, inventor of the telephone; Alexander Fleming, who discovered <br /> penicillin; and John Paul Jones, the founder of the United States Navy. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Charles Sisk, Mayor of the City of Louisville, <br /> Colorado, along with the City Council do hereby proclaim April 6, 2005 as Scottish Tartan Day in <br /> Louisville and invite all citizens to honor the great traditions and heritage of Scotland on this day. <br /> DATED this 5th day of April, 2005 <br /> ;4LOUISO% <br /> •t <br /> r;i : 1N1 .k 4, Charles L.
