OLDER AMERICANS MONTH <br /> WHEREAS, there are many faces of aging today,with older adults making a diverse segment <br /> of the population. <br /> WHEREAS, today more than ever people are living longer, healthier, more active lives: and <br /> yet as the many faces of aging American's turn to the future, they will confront <br /> new challenges in the health care, finances, long term care, and even <br /> employment. <br /> WHERAS, there are currently over 35 million older Americans with the number expected to <br /> grow in numbers by 2030 when 1 in 5 Americans will be 65 or older, <br /> WHEREAS, the number of people in Boulder County age 60 and older increased by nearly 30 <br /> percent in the last decade while the overall population increased by only 16 <br /> percent, <br /> WHEREAS, the number of older Americans that become caregivers will increase in numbers <br /> by 2002. <br /> WHEREAS, the rapidly increasing multi-cultural and multi-generational aging population <br /> will present challenges to our local governments, <br /> NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Mayor Tom Davidson hereby proclaim May as OLDER <br /> AMERICANS MONTH IN LOUISVILLE, COLORADO and call on all citizens to join with us in saluting and <br /> acknowledging the contribution of Louisville's diverse, unique, and wonderful older population during May and <br /> throughout the year. <br /> DATED this 7th day of May 2002. <br /> ,......_ <br /> Tom Davidson,Mayor <br /> ...ti %%1 <br /> l ay//P• */1 <br /> )-1 ' ancy Varra,City Clerk <br /> 1`, w.,CQ\- ' <br />
