INTERNATIONAL BUILDING SAFETY WEEK 1996 <br />April 7-13, 1996 <br />Whereas, the safety of the buildings we occupy daily is essential to the health, safety and welfare of the <br />citizens of the world; and <br />Whereas, among the world's most fundamental laws and ordinances are those which provide standards <br />for the safe construction of buildings in which people live, work and play; and <br />Whereas, for construction and building codes to be effective and enforced, understanding and <br />cooperation must exist between code officials and the people they serve; and <br />Whereas, through the efforts of code officials worldwide, and their cooperative relationship with the <br />construction industry, the administration of these health and life -safety standards is assured; <br />and <br />Whereas, units of government across the world - along with such prestigious organizations ad Building <br />Officials & Code Administrators (BOCA) International, Inc., International Conference of <br />Building Officials (IBCO), Southern Building Code Congress International (SBCCI), Inc., the <br />Council of American Building Officials (CABO), the National Conference of States on <br />Building Codes and Standards (NCSBCS), and the World Organization of Building Officials <br />(WOBO) - are joining to promote the use of building and construction codes today for a <br />lifetime of building safety, through the observation of International Building Safety Week; <br />and <br />Whereas, theme of International Building Safety Week 1996 has been established as "A Safer World Is <br />on the Horizon;" <br />Now, therefore, I Tom Davidson, Mayor, of the City of Louisville do hereby proclaim the week of April 7- <br />13, 1996, as INTERNATIONAL BUILDING SAFETY WEEK.
