01lice o f t ie Mayor <br />?Cout-IWI-Itr, Totorabo <br />if <br />V.rortamatton <br />rMIR�s <br />vARBOR DAY <br />WHEREAS, In 1872 Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of Agriculture <br />that a special day be set aside for the planting of trees, and <br />WHEREAS, this holiday, called Arbor Day, was first observed with the planting <br />of more than a million trees in Nebraska, and <br />WR- EPLE -S, K.rwr Lay is now obse ved ti roui- :o;;, the nz'ion and the world, <br />WHEREAS, trees can reduoe the erosion of our precious topsoil by wind and <br />water, cut heating and cooling costs, moderate the temperature, clean <br />the air, produce oxygen and provide habitat for wild ifs, and <br />WHEREAS, trees are a renewable resource giving us psper, wood for our homes, <br />fuel for our fires and eounde!is other wood products, and <br />ItiIER"S, trees planttd in our city ir►crease properly vr,!ues, entrance the <br />eoonomic vitality of business arena And heautify our eornmur►ity, and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Louisville has been rea)pmized as a Tree City iJ.S.A-" by <br />the National Arbor Day Foundation and desire& to continue its tree - <br />planting ways, <br />NOW TUEREFORE, I, Tom Davidson, Mayo► of the City of Louisville, do hereby proclaim <br />April 23, 1994 as Arbor Day it) the City of Louisville and urge all <br />citizens to celebrate efforts to care for our trees and woodlaruis and <br />to support our city's community forestry program, and <br />FURTHER.
