"CHINESE NEW YEAR" <br />January 23, 1993 <br />WHEREAS, this celebration dates back to the seventh century and the lion and dragon <br />dance was originally to expel demons from the old year and to allow a bright <br />new year; and, <br />WHEREAS, it is now called the Spring Festival in China, the holiday is a celebration for <br />a bright future - it is a time for cleaning house, settling obligations and <br />setting ones affairs in order; and, <br />WHEREAS, the citizens of Chinese descent have richly contributed to the social fabric of <br />Colorado; and, <br />WHEREAS, citizens of Chinese descent bring with them a rich cultural heritage which has <br />been shared and enjoyed by many; and, <br />WHEREAS, citizens of Chinese descent have contributed to the betterment of this <br />community; and, <br />WHEREAS, citizens of Chinese descent have also brought enjoyment and entertainment <br />through their wonderful cuisine and artistic talents. <br />THEREFORE, I, TOM DAVIDSON, Mayor of the City of Louisville, Colorado do hereby <br />proclaim January 23, 1993 as "Chinese New Year" and urge all citizens in our community <br />to help celebrate "Chinese New Year." <br />Dated this 19th day of January, 1993. <br />Tom Davidson, Mayor <br />ATTEST: <br />
