P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, one fire death is too many and during 1985 there
were nearly 40 deaths in Colorado resulting from fire; and
WHEREAS, the majority of fires (80%) and fire deaths occur
in the home with the principal reasons for these tragedies being
a lack of functioning early warning devices in the home and
individuals fail to act appropriately in the event of fire; and
WHEREAS, the average American experiences 3 fires during
their adult lifetime, yet many people continue to believe they
will not ever be faced with a fire and therefore have a disregard
for the importance of planning and practicing for the event of a
fire; and
WHEREAS, it is well known that fire drills save lives and
are therefore mandated in high risk occupancies such as schools,
but are not practiced at home where 80% of all fires occur; and
WHEREAS, the PLAN TO GET OUT. ALIVE. family fire drill,
which will be held on October 9, 1986 at 6:00 p.m., provides
families in Colorado an opportunity to plan for their safety at
home and to practice their plan; and
WHEREAS, on that date Colorado will become one of two states
to hold a statewide family fire drill for the first time ever in
the history of the nation;
NOW THEREFORE, I HERMAN FAUSON, Mayor of the City of
Lousiville, Colorado, do hereby proclaim October 9th, 1986 as
FAMILY FIRE DRILL DAY
in the City of Louisville, Colorado and urge all families to
become more aware of what they can do to plan and practice fire
safety at home and to participate in the PLAN TO GET OUT. ALIVE.
family fire drill on October 9th, 1986 at 6:00 P.M..
GIVEN under my hand and seal the 16th of September, 1986.
iil/YrtGtrL_
Herman Fauson, Mayor
Louisville, Colorado
