A PROCLAMATION PROCLAIMING NOVEMBER 22 - 29 <br />FAMILY CAREGIVERS' WEEK <br />WHERAS, unpaid family members, not government, provide most day- <br />to-day care of the chronically ill and of the frail elderly; and <br />WHERAS, the majority of primary family caregivers are women -- <br />spouses, daughters, daughters-in-law and sisters; and <br />WHERAS, many of the women must quit work to become full-time <br />caregivers, drastically rearrange their work schedules or work fewer hours <br />because of caregiver responsibilities; and <br />WHERAS, the role of the spouse as a principal caregiver has generally <br />been understated; and <br />WHERAS, family caregivers need information about community <br />resources and respite from the strains of their caregiving roles; and <br />WHERAS, more public attention needs to be focused on the major <br />contributions that family caregivers make to continuance of the family unit, <br />as well as to their problems and sacrifices; and <br />WHERAS, the United States Congress has established the week of <br />November 22 - 29 as National Family Caregivers' Week; and <br />WHERAS, the national OLDER WOMEN'S LEAGUE, along with the FRONT <br />RANGE chapter, has chosen respite for caregivers as one of their key agenda <br />issues; <br />NOW THERFORE, WE, HERM FAUSON, Mayor, and the CITY COUNCIL of <br />the City of Louisville, Colorado do hereby declare November 22 - 29, 1987 <br />as: <br />FAMILY CAREGIVERS' WEEK <br />in the City of Louisville, Colorado and urge all citizens to observe this week <br />with appropriate ceremonies and acitivities. ` <br />Mayor <br />ATT T: <br />City Clerk <br />
