Per City Council Meeting Minutes this <br />proclamation was read during the April 16, <br />1985 Council meeting <br />PROCLAMATION <br />VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION WEEK <br />April 22-28, 1985 <br />WHEREAS, Louisville has a long history of volunteerism, dating back to <br />our pioneers who conquered rugged terrain and hostile <br />environments to build new lives for themselves, their <br />neighbors and their frontier communities; and <br />WHEREAS, from the frontier days to the present, Louisville citizens <br />have exhibited independence, creativity and innovation by <br />by working together to improve the quality of life in our <br />City; and <br />WHEREAS, volunteers, working in partnership with government, <br />business and industry, fulfill many needs and perform <br />numerous tasks that would otherwise remain incomplete; and <br />WHEREAS, dedicated volunteers in Louisville programs for the mentally <br />and physically handicapped, and for the elderly and the <br />young, as well as those volunteers who serve on City boards <br />and commissions, deserve to be recognized for their many <br />hours of service; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, Norbert A. Meier, Mayor of the City of Louisville, <br />do hereby proclaim April 22-28, 1985, as <br />VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION WEEK <br />in the City of Louisville, and urge all citizens to join me in thanking and <br />recognizing the many volunteers who help perpetuate Louisville's pioneer <br />spirit by donating a portion of their time, talent and resources to the <br />betterment and health of their communities through voluntary service. <br />GIVEN under my hand and the Seal of <br />the City of Louisville, this sixteenth <br />day of April, A.D. 1985. <br />Norbert A.
