ARBOR DAY <br />WHEREAS, The City of Louisville conducts an annual Arbor Day Celebration, <br />employs staff dedicated to tree care, has written a tree ordinance, and <br />spends more than two dollars per capita on tree care, the National Arbor <br />Day Foundation recognizes the City of Louisville as a Tree City USA for <br />the 37th consecutive year and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Louisville received the Tree City USA Growth Award from the <br />National Arbor Day Foundation for hiring a City Forester and completing <br />an inventory of city trees and <br />WHEREAS, through the work of the Parks and Public Landscaping Advisory Board, <br />the City of Louisville has established and committed to an ongoing <br />landscape beautification master plan involving the planting of numerous <br />trees and shrubs and <br />WHEREAS, through lottery proceeds the City of Louisville has established an <br />arboretum and continues to maintain and manage through sound <br />arboricultural practices. <br />WHEREAS, the Parks and Public Landscaping Advisory Board and City of Louisville <br />staff continue to educate the public on sound horticultural and forestry <br />practices and <br />WHEREAS, Arbor Day has been celebrated nationally since 1872. <br />NOW THEREFORE, I, Robert P. Muckle, Mayor of the City of Louisville, do hereby <br />proclaim Saturday, April 15, 2017 as Arbor Day in the City of Louisville and urge all <br />citizens to celebrate efforts to care for our trees and woodlands and to support our city's <br />community forestry program, and I urge all citizens to plant trees to gladden the heart and <br />promote the well-being of present and future generations. <br />DATED this 4th day of April 2017. <br />Robert P.
