Autonomous Vehicle Proclamation <br />WHEREAS, in 2015, over 35,000 Americans lost their lives in traffic related <br />crashes; and <br />WHEREAS, in 2016, more than 600 Coloradans died in crashes on the State's <br />roads and highways, over 90% of which were caused by human <br />error; and <br />WHEREAS, innovative technology in the form of autonomous or "self -driving" <br />vehicles can remove human error and save lives while reducing the <br />significant financial impact associated with vehicular crashes; and <br />WHEREAS, a reduction in vehicular fatalities associated with self -driving cars <br />closely aligns with the City's goals to improve safety and bring the <br />number on traffic related deaths to zero; and <br />WHEREAS, self -driving vehicles can also help reduce congestion and improve <br />mobility by offering cost-efficient, last -mile connections to existing <br />public transit, and <br />WHEREAS, self -driving vehicles and the services developed in relation to this <br />technology should produce new jobs and economic models that <br />continue to place Louisville at the forefront of innovation. <br />NOW THEREFORE, I, Robert P. Muckle, Mayor of the City of Louisville do herby <br />proclaim April 4, 2017 as Autonomous Vehicle Support Day, supporting state legislation <br />that allows for the safe operation of autonomous vehicles. City Council recognizes the <br />importance of self -driving vehicles to a vibrant economy and the safety of all Louisville <br />residents, and thus, encourages the Colorado Legislature to pass Senate Bill 17-213, <br />which provides the regulatory framework necessary for the safe and successful launch <br />of autonomous vehicle technology in Louisville and across Colorado. <br />Dated this 4t" day of April, 2017 <br />'Y, & <br />LO�� �® <br />kobert P.
