Farewell to Peter Gowen, OSAB Member <br />Helen read a resolution of appreciation for departing board member, Peter Gowen. <br />Peter expressed his gratitude and said he was happy to help staff and the board with <br />any future code issues. He expressed regret that he was leaving Louisville. <br />Resolution of Appreciation <br />for <br />Peter Gowen <br />by the City of Louisville Open Space Advisory Board <br />September, 2022 <br />Whereas, Peter Gowen has served on the City of Louisville Open Space Advisory Board for close to five years, <br />from January, 2018 to September, 2022. <br />Whereas, Peter served not only as a valued OSAB colleague but also as OSAB Vice -Chair, lead of the OSAB <br />General Business Goal, a ready mentor for new members, and a champion for the efficient and effective operation <br />of OSAB. His contributions are characterized by his deep research, relevant expertise, knowledge of best practices <br />for meeting procedures and governance, direct questions and thoughtful answers, and determined commitment to <br />protect, conserve and preserve our open space lands. <br />Whereas, Peter's tenure as a member and colleague has been enriched by his expert administrative, legal and <br />hydrological knowledge and decades of volunteer contributions to our local communities in committee rooms, <br />classrooms and on the trails. His exceptional combination of legal and scientific analysis, research of board history <br />and actions, knowledge of informal Board customs and formal authorities under City code, ability to "get to the <br />point", support of new members, clarity of thought and language, constructive debate, and dedication to <br />conservation and preservation has benefited all of us locally and regionally. His valuable expertise and advice, <br />derived from his years of professional practice and experience with state and local boards and federal agencies <br />and his genuine commitment to education and enjoyment of the outdoors are exemplified by his many <br />achievements including his years of teaching and volunteering with the Colorado Mountain Club and Wildland <br />Restoration Volunteers. This past year, Peter was instrumental in on -boarding new members and our work with <br />public land dedications and communication with the public and city council. <br />Whereas, he guided us with his organizational skills, conscientious work ethic, rational approach, detailed <br />summaries and inherent ability to articulate the issues and possible solutions. He prepared for every meeting, <br />kept abreast of council actions, and helped OSAB anticipate and address issues as they developed. His research <br />enriched our discussion and his broad knowledge expanded our resources and options.
