Proclamation in recognition of the Regional Transportation District being named Best Transit Agency in North America by the American Public Transportation Association WHEREAS, the Regional Transportation District (RTD) was recognized as the 2008 Outstanding Transit Agency in North America by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) on October 7, 2008; and WHEREAS, RTD's 2,300 employees provide service to a 2,400-square-mile area, operating 1,060 buses on 170 routes and 117 light rail vehicles operating on 35 miles of track; and WHEREAS, RTD is on pace to carry a record 100 million passenger trips this year; and WHEREAS, RTD's bus and light rail service provides exceptionally high on -time performance levels, with light rail on -time rate at 99.95, ADA paratransit service at 98 percent, local bus service at 89 percent and express and regional bus service at 94 percent; and WHEREAS, RTD has begun construction on the West Corridor, part of the voter - approved 12-year FasTracks transit expansion program, the largest transit -only initiative in the nation; and WHEREAS, RTD's selection by the American Public Transportation Association as the 2008 Outstanding Public Transportation Agency is the third time RTD has won this prestigious award and the second time in only five years; and NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LOUISVILLE, COLORADO: That the Council hereby congratulates the Regional Transportation District (RTD) on being named the 2008 Outstanding Transit Agency in North America by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) and that the Council recognizes and thanks RTD employees, staff, private contractors and the Board of Directors for their dedication and quality of service to the public.
