Recreation Advisory Board
Minutes
September 26, 2022
Staff Updates
City Manager Durbin introduced himself and spoke about the value of Louisville's
community engagement. The 2023-24 budget reflects the financial challenges
the City is facing subsequent to the fire and therefore is very conservative. Jeff
indicated that city staff will be focusing on meeting with all the boards to facilitate
improved communications.
Staffing is still a challenge, particularly for all the lifeguard shifts and daytime
childcare shifts. New parks superintendent has started and is onboarding. A new
catalogue is being developed for winter programming. Preschool registration has
dropped off; focus groups have been conducted to assess the needs of
preschool families. A pilot program for a longer -day preschool is being rolled out
in October to see how registration goes.
2023 City Council Work Plan Recommendations
Kathy introduced the City Council's desire to establish a formal process whereby
each board/commission can submit a list of projects to the City Council for the
Council to consider for inclusion in their 2023 work plan. City Council will start its
work plan conversation in December and finalize the 2023 Work Plan in January.
Board members should submit their ideas to Lisa and a list will be developed for
board vote in October.
Outdoor Rec Amenities Update
• Subcommittee - Gene and Dick will be on this committee; this committee
will work with members of the parks advisory board.
Board Feedback
Michele mentioned that Superior has pickleball programming specifically
targeted to beginners. It would be great if Louisville could offer something
similar in the gym.
Lisa provided feedback for the golf course, specifically to reinstall ball -washers
on the course and improve the dirt (rocky) path connecting holes 8 and 9.
