Economic Vitality Committee
Meeting Minutes
September 16, 2022
City Manager Durbin asked if there is a clear reason for "why" the EVC is
hosting the Forum. He continued that the "why" should help identify the metrics
for success. Chair Dickinson responded that professionalism is an important
goal for the event. Director Zuccaro suggested working with the City Events
staff to help produce the event. City Manager Durbin agreed with this
statement.
Councilmember Most emphasized that with the date of the Forum quickly
approaching, there needs to be more coordination on the logistics and
marketing. Chair Dickinson wondered whether there needs to be a
subcommittee assembled for planning the event. Director Zuccaro responded
that staff will begin working with both the Events and Communications staff to
finalize vendors and send out invitations.
Chair Dickinson gave an overview of the expected schedule and anticipated
speakers and asked for feedback. Councilmember Most responded that the City
should be sure to communicate its business support services. She continued
that sustainability efforts and goals should also be an important topic.
Councilmember Fahey commented on the importance of offering incentives for
sustainable buildings. Chair Dickinson responded that the tone of the Forum will
be shaped by the Commercial Energy Code discussion.
The EVC confirmed that the following booths should be present: Historic
Preservation Commission, Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Business
Association, Louisville Revitalization Commission, Public Works, and the
Sustainability Advisory Board.
Public Comment from Mark Cathcart: Mr. Cathcart commented that the allotted
speaking times may be too short to make a substantial point. Chair Dickinson
acknowledged the concern and felt that there could be some flexibility for those
that actually speak.
Public Comment from Mike Kranzdorf: Mr. Kranzdorf commented that the
Business Satisfaction Survey should be an objective and item of discussion for
the Business Forum. He also expressed surprise that the Commercial Energy
Code has still not been an item of discussion at the EVC.
Public Comment from Mark Oberholzer: Mr. Oberholzer agreed with Mr.
Kranzdorf that he expected more discussion from the EVC on the Commercial
Energy Code.
Public Comment from Chris Leh: Councilmember Leh agreed that the EVC
should be a place for the business community to discuss items that will affect
them. He also wondered whether it would make sense to revisit the
conversation about having a business person on the committee.
Agenda Packet P. 4
