From: Joshua Cooperman
To: City Council
Subject: Work Plan 2023: Phase -out of gas -powered landscaping equipment
Date: Friday, December 9, 2022 9:36:10 AM
Dear members of the Louisville City Council,
I fully support the Louisville Sustainability Advisory Board's recommendation to include on
your 2023 work plan the development and adoption of legislation that phases out the sale and
use of gasoline -powered landscaping equipment in Louisville.
A phase -out of gasoline -powered landscaping equipment would benefit our community in
multiple ways. Most significantly, such a phase -out would reduce air pollution, reduce
greenhouse gas emissions, reduce noise pollution, and improve working conditions for
landscapers. Many of these benefits align with commitments and goals enunciated in the City's
guiding documents.
A phase -out of gasoline -powered landscaping equipment would also be timely. The
Environmental Protection Agency recently downgraded our region's nonattainment of its
ground -level ozone air pollution standards from serious to severe. The United Nations' climate
reports from the past year demonstrate the extreme urgency of drastically reducing greenhouse
gas emissions. The City of Boulder also plans to consider phasing out gasoline -powered
landscaping equipment this coming year.
Thank you for reading and considering my comments.
Best,
Josh
==CAUTION: EXTERNAL EMAIL==
This email originated from outside the City of Louisville's email environment.
