From: Laura Page
To: City Council
Subject: Polluting landscaping equipment
Date: Sunday, December 11, 2022 7:56:58 AM
Dear Mayor and Members of Council,
As you decide on your work plan for 2023, I ask that you consider addressing highly -polluting,
gas -powered landscaping equipment, as recommended by your Sustainability Board. Our
region's air quality is among the poorest in the country. Gas -powered mowers alone
contribute over 5% of total air pollution in urban areas, according to the EPA. The fumes
emitted by this equipment are hazardous to the health of the user. Landscaping workers are at
particular risk. This equipment is often very noisy, too, increasing noise pollution. Leaf blowers
are especially agregace, as I'm sure you will agree.
You have it in your power to reduce air pollution and improve the health and the quality of life
of your citizens by mandating the phase -out of this equipment, or incentivizing the purchase of
battery -operated equipment.
Thank you for the work you do towards reducing our City's impact on the environment.
Laura Page
920 Rex Street
==CAUTION: EXTERNAL EMAIL==
This email originated from outside the City of Louisville's email environment.
