Youth Advisory Board
Agenda
DATE
most we could do. One of our other ideas was assisting non-English speakers, and Mandy and
Jessica spoke about ways the City was already doing this.
Pet Mayor — Jessica brought this idea to a group. A citizen originally brought this
to the Library after getting the Mayor's approval, but Library staff felt it might be
more successful if coordinated by the YAB. We would invite citizens to nominate
their pets to run for Pet Mayor of Louisville, and we would organize an election.
The winning pet would lead the Labor Day Pet Parade next September. This was
originally intended to build community and bring joy post -fire, but we can use this
to other productive ends as well.
We spent the rest of the meeting brainstorming logistics, how we can use
social media on top of more basic marketing to promote, if we wanted to
target a certain age group (we decided kids, teens, and adults should be
able to nominate pets and vote), and ways we can use the event for larger
goals (civic engagement, animal rescue, etc.).
Discuss popular ideas from last month's brainstorming - After Mandy's info,
the group decided that the Pet Mayor idea was more achievable than any of our
previous ideas.
VII. Discussion Items for Next Meeting —All members need to come to January's meeting
with 3+ ideas of things we can do to make the Pet Mayor Election a success.
• We will consider logistics like who can enter, who can vote, how will we collect
and vet nominees, how will we collect and tabulate votes, our timeline, best ways
to promote, etc.
• We will also think about ways we can use the election to encourage teens to
register to vote, and to promote local animal shelters/charities.
• In January we may consider forming subcommittees or scheduling a second
meeting.
• Mandy and Jessica will see if they can get someone from the City's Marketing
team to visit our January meeting.
VIII. Comments From Liaisons — Mandy had to cancel the Grinch event, but has another
volunteer opportunity at the Rec Center later this month. She will send out a SignUpGenius
link with more info.
IX. Adjourn — The meeting was adjourned at 7:33pm.
