Planning Commission
Meeting Minutes
April 14, 2022
that will affect everyone. If this was not passed, it is possible that insurance would cover
this. If there is no op -out option, he assumes that insurance would be responsible for
this or the homeowners would be responsible if they did not have insurance.
Hoefner says the way he sees this draft is that because you have to certify that you are
under insured, he does not think it will create the option for the insurance companies to
see the option of the opt -out and now not give the needed coverage.
Moline says he is inclined to support this because it provides an option to opt -out and
give additional support to those affected by the fire.
Hoefner aggress with Commissioner Moline that the flexibility is very important.
Osterman says that the way she is looking at this is through the lens that the
commission already gave its decision and recommendation for the IECC op -out. She is
seeing this still in spirit with that decision. This is only a technicality and the reason we
are reviewing this is so we can debate the merits of having the EV provision. She is in
favor of approving it because she sees this just as a technicality. She wants to be in
alignment with their past decision making.
Diehl agrees with Commissioner Osterman's comments. City Council could not make
this change without Planning Commission's approval because it deals with zoning. If it
would have been a part of the building code, we would not be meeting about this. City
Council has already decided to have this op -out option so we are just aligning with that.
Krantz agrees with Commissioner Osterman's comments as well. Approving this
resolution would be in alignment with what City Council already has set in place.
Brauneis say he is in support of this and views this as a technicality. He mentions EV is
a small investment when looking at the big picture of buying a new home and the costs
that entails.
Moline moves and Diehl seconds a motion to approve Resolution 7, Series 2022.
Motion passes 6-1 by a roll call vote.
Name
Vote
Steve Brauneis
Yes
Dietrich Hoefner
Yes
Ben Diehl
Yes
Keaton Howe
No
Jeff Moline
Yes
Tamar Krantz
Yes
Allison Osterman
Yes
Motionpassed/failed:
Passes
COMMISSIONER COMMENTS
Brauneis commends the three remaining highschool students who attended the
meeting as part of their government class for staying for the whole the meeting.
Hoefner mentions he enjoys seeing everyone in person for this meeting.
STAFF COMMENTS
Kay Marchetti asks that the commissioner's provide feedback on how the hybrid
meeting went before the next meeting.
ITEMS TENTATIVELY SCHEDULED FOR THE MEETING ON MAY 12, 2022
None is heard.
ADJOURN
