Recreation Advisory Board
Minutes
December 19, 2022
The main part of Mandy's job is to manage two state -licensed childcare
programs. She has to follow all state regulations and works to ensure quality
care.
• Summer Day Camp provides activities for K — 5'" grade students. The
camp can accommodate 60 students, and it fills on the first day of
registration. The camp is mostly staffed by high school and college
students, who all have to complete 20 hours of state -mandated
training. This past summer it was difficult to hire enough staff, but
Mandy is working to recruit for the coming year, with incentives such
as hiring bonuses. All registrations will be online this year.
• Part-time Preschool classes for 3-year-old and 4/5-year-old children
meet three times a week, with children attending either in the morning
or in the afternoon. The Preschool has good staff retention with
educators who meet the stringent state requirements. If children need
additional support, they are referred to appropriate outside resources.
• Mandy has applied for the preschool to become a part of the
Colorado Universal Preschool Program. This State program provides
free part-time preschool in the year before children enter
Kindergarten. If the application goes through, families will need to
enroll through a portal with the State of Colorado. The State will pay
the preschool quarterly. Mandy can adjust how many spots will be
available for the State program.
General Updates — Kathy Martin
Kathy reported that the Weekend of Healing for the Marshall Fire
Commemoration had a small attendance, but created positive feelings. The
Louisville Rec Center also partnered with a group to provide Christmas
ornaments for fire families.
Rec Center attendance is increasing, with consistently over 1,000 entries a
day. This is still below 2019 numbers, but moving in a positive direction. Rec
Center staff is looking at ideas to increase attendance.
Michele reported that popular pickleball lessons are getting new people in
the door, and then they realize that this is a great facility. Kathy said that a
Masters Swim program is also attracting new people.
David Dean won the Rocky Mountain Region Turfgrass Professional of the
Year. The Board members celebrated this achievement.
Outdoor Rec Amenities Update
Gene and Dick met with the subcommittee. Gene reported that the group
needs to prioritize what amenities should go in the parks. Subcommittee
