Similar talks by <br />Rypkema available on YouTube. <br />• Demolitions waste materials/embodied carbon, and they increase landfill <br />waste. <br />• Compelling data + effective storytelling + a clear ask = advocacy for policy <br />change. <br />• "If we forget that preservation is human -centered, then we have lost our <br />way." <br />• A number of keynotes and panelist emphasized how historic preservation <br />can promote equity, affordability and sustainability. It suggested the <br />benefits of preservation extend beyond "good for business" and just <br />buildings. <br />• "People are longing for a place not only to live but also to love." <br />Ideas <br />These are a few of the ideas for Louisville that came up during the conference. <br />• Invite new City EDI manager to an HPC meeting? <br />• Make social histories from museum available as a book at the library? <br />• Approach Museum, artist, History Colorado, et al. to apply to put <br />mural/William Lofton on Black History Trail app? <br />• Are there ways to connect our landmark map with others around the <br />state? <br />• List of potential landmarks related to histories of BIPOC (Black, <br />Indigenous, and People of Color) residents of Louisville? Related to <br />state's efforts to increase preserved buildings and landscapes related to <br />BIPOC history ahead of 2026 sesquicentennial of Colorado statehood. <br />• Use Clio (or similar) for virtual walking tour? <br />• Is there interest in the sustainability aspects of preservation for Louisville? <br />Opportunities for reuse, demo alternatives, etc.? <br />Resources <br />• Download History Colorado app on smartphone for access to Black <br />History Trail. <br />• "Cultural preservation," i.e., maintaining cultural heritage, is a framework <br />that can help emphasize preserving people's stories through preserving <br />buildings. <br />• Historic Boulder has experience with buying and selling historic properties. <br />• Donovan Rypkema spoke about "Place Economics," his firm that analyzes <br />the economic impacts of preservation. <br />12 <br />
