City Council <br />Meeting Minutes <br />December 6, 2022 <br />Page 4 of 6 <br />Mayor Stolzmann noted this item needs to be continued due to an error in the public <br />notice. <br />MOTION: Mayor Stolzmann moved it be continued to December 20 at 6 pm; <br />Councilmember Fahey seconded. <br />VOTE: Motion approved by unanimous voice vote. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 50, SERIES 2022 — A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING THE CITY <br />OF LOUISVILLE AS A BEE CITY USA AFFILIATE <br />Abby McNeal, Parks Superintendent, stated the Parks & Public Landscape Advisory <br />Board suggested the City apply to become a Bee City USA. Bee City USA supports the <br />current pollinator planting program throughout the community and within the Parks <br />landscape beds. The Parks and Open Space staff actively promote land preservation <br />and protection through creating healthy habitats using native plantings. Plants that <br />promote pollination transactions are a fundamental building block of a healthy <br />environment. These plants have been known to improve the appearance of <br />neighborhoods, provide beneficial habitats. and enhance public spaces. <br />The Parks and Open Space teams have been actively using pollinator plants for the last <br />three years and have a focus to incorporate more native plant materials in our annual <br />installations and renovations. Our current programs support and align with Bee City <br />USA and will champion the philosophies of the program to increase pollinators within <br />the community. <br />Public Comments <br />Josh Cooperman, Louisville, stated he supports this program and the commitment to <br />helping bees and insects and their impact on the environment. He noted it aligns with <br />the City's Sustainability Action Plan. He urged approval. <br />Councilmember Brown stated his support for the program and how it will help the <br />landscape. Councilmembers Fahey and Leh agreed. <br />MOTION: Councilmember Leh moved to approve the resolution; seconded by <br />Councilmember Fahey. <br />Mayor Pro Tern Maloney noted the City began using pollinator plants three years ago; in <br />addition, this is good information for those rebuilding homes and planning landscaping. <br />VOTE: Motion approved by unanimous voice vote. <br />UPDATE — ANNUAL SUSTAINABILITY GOALS <br />
