Bridget Bacon
Louisville Historical Museum
Department of Cultural Services
City of Louisville, Colorado
April 2023
CityLL
."f Louisville
L D -SINCE 1878
1045 Front Street History
Legal Description: Lot 1, Block 17, Caledonia Place Addition
Date of Construction: circa 1905
Summary: This home has been consecutively owned by members of the same Scarano / LaSalle
/ DeSantis / Winslow family from 1909 until 2023, for a total of 114 years. The owners for
almost the entirety of that time were women of the family who were the sole owners: Rosa
Scarano LaSalle, her daughter Adeline LaSalle DeSantis, and her daughter Doris DeSantis
Winslow.
(Denver Post articles cited were accessed at Family History & Genealogy Search I
GenealogyBank. Louisville Times articles cited were accessed at Colorado Historic Newspapers
Collection.)
Development of Caledonia Place Addition
The subdivision in which 1045 Front is located is Caledonia Place. This subdivision was platted
and recorded with Boulder County in 1890 by James Cannon, Howard Morris, and Henry
Brooks. It was the fourth addition to original Louisville, which had been platted in 1878. (The
lots in Caledonia Place were larger than most of the lots in subdivisions in Old Town Louisville
that were platted later, and the 1909 Drumm's Wall Map of Louisville shows that most houses
were each on one lot as opposed to other parts of Louisville, where it was more common to
have a house on about two lots.)
Earliest Owners; Date of Construction
In 1892, John Palmer purchased Lot 1, Block 17, in Caledonia Place. However, property records
recorded with the County indicate that he apparently defaulted on a loan that was secured by
the property. The result was that in 1894, Thomas Autrey acquired Lot 1 at a Trustee's Sale.
1
