I believe a perfect fit exists between my professional background, passion for 'community', character traits, and what the City desires in its Economic Development/Vitality Manager. I have both enjoyed and excelled in my career as a community planning and economic development professional over the past 20+ years. In addition to the breadth of technical skills I possess relative to the economic development and planning fields and my overall knowledge of local government, I also possess the ability to effectively communicate, manage personnel and projects, and develop key partnerships which is perhaps the most integral ingredient to establishing a successful economic development program. I would embrace the opportunity to once again utilize both my leadership skills and technical expertise to address challenges and opportunities for the benefit of a community. My enclosed resume details the variety of competencies, responsibilities and achievements throughout my career thus far. Through my professional experiences, I have developed a sincere passion for practicing at the local government level to effectuate livable communities. In one of my performance appraisals, the City Administrator indicated the following: "Your dedication to the City, your work ethic, and your planning and development acumen are unchallenged. With your direction and hard work the City has completed several large projects which will have a long-lasting impact on the community. Your friendly and sociable personality has served the City well as many collaborative efforts have been the end result. You always have a can -do attitude and have an approach that works towards finding solutions to problems. Through your continued efforts the City is a better place." I would love the opportunity to bring the same to the City of Louisville. As you will see from my resume, the past few years I have made some changes in employment in my search to find where I belong, where I can be most creative and challenged, feel a sense of accomplishment, and where I can make a difference. These positions all still remained within the community development arena, including at the county level, city level, and most -recently in the private sector. What I have learned is that where I thrive is in local government planning and development management where I can work as part of a larger team to make a place people are proud to call 'home' and play a role in positioning the community for future sustainability. I miss proactively and positively leading a great team, implementing creative initiatives to achieve community goals, and working closely with my colleagues and the public to make a long-term impact. And I can't wait to get back at it! In closing, I believe that I can provide Louisville everything it desires in its Economic Development/Vitality Manager: an energetic, creative, team -oriented leader, who possesses a breadth of knowledge in the area of community economic development.
