Open Space Advisory Board
Minutes
May 10, 2023
using the recycled asphalt, which has proven popular with several members of both City's
boards.
Ryan also mentioned that the HWY 36 Bikeway connection through Superior is now all
concrete (it used to be gravel). David recommended wayfinding signage to help people
stay on that section of the trail. Leslie said that there is a plan for such signs.
Ryan said that OSAC met with their counterparts from Broomfield last year. Broomfield is
looking at two regional trail connections: one would be at the top of Coyote Ridge on the
east side, connecting down to Dry Creek. The other would be connecting the drainage
under 36 near the Flatirons Mall towards Stearns Lake and Rock Creek (the south corner
of the Redtail Ridge property).
David asked about a DRCOG proposal for an underpass at McCaslin at the Ormond Roche
trailhead. Leslie said it would be great because people and wildlife cross McCaslin
unsafely there, but she cautioned that it would cost $6 million due to drainage issues and
the surrounding private property.
David presented that the Overlook Underpass Trail connection is Louisville's top priority
to Boulder County. Priority number 2 would realign the Coal Creek Trail to run along the
creek itself, avoiding the hill up to the Aquarius Trailhead. Priority number 3 would run
south from the Coal Creek Trail toward the ReclTail Ridge property.
David showed the OSAC a slide of the two possible trail alignments for the Overlook
Underpass Trail connecting to the Mayhoffer-Singletree Trail. He pointed out that there
would need to be a bridge that could go over the double ditch at the NE section of the
parcel. OSAC pointed out that their County request was specifically for an underpass
under Marshall Rd, not a new trail. Ryan said that he felt that OSAC should align their
request to the County with Louisville's request. David commented that the entire bridge
and new trail would cost less than the underpass, but if the trail destination is built first,
then the will for the underpass might increase. Ryan thinks the new trail would be very
cool, but is worried that people might be hit by cars crossing Marshall Rd. Jeff Moline said
that the proposed western trail alignment has the disadvantage that it divides an
agricultural grazing lease. Michiko made a request for larger -scale maps with roads
named to help orient people with these sorts of presentations.
19. Discussion Items for the Next Meeting June 14th, 2023
1.
