This excerpt of a 1978 aerial photo is a front view of 1209 Main:
Later owners
Erich and Deborah Walls purchased 1209 Main from the Stelmack family in 1996. They, in turn,
sold it to Jeffrey Smith and Stacey Brangenberg in 2001. In 2021, Stacey Brangenberg became
the sole owner, and in 2022, she sold it to Defend Colorado, LLC, which is the current owner of
record.
Records of the work that owners have had done on the house since the 1990s can be found on
the City website here: Main 1209 - Laserfiche WebLink (louisvilleco.gov) . These records show
that in the 1990s, some outbuildings were demolished. They appear on a 1996 survey that was
filed later with a notation that the buildings were by then gone. They include a "chicken coop"
and a "very old barn" at the southwest corner of the property. It is possible that other
structures, including additional structures for raising chickens, had already been removed.
According to the report "Stories in Places: Putting Louisville's Residential Development in
Context" (at Microsoft Word - Final Louisville Residential Context 111918 (louisvilleco.gov)
written by PaleoWest Archaeology for the City of Louisville, the architectural style of the house
at 1209 Main is "bungalow" style.
The preceding research is based on a review of relevant and available online County property records, census
records, oral history interviews, Louisville directories, and Louisville Historical Museum maps, files, obituary
records, and historical photographs from the collection of the Louisville Historical Museum.
7
