B. Tr~il requests: Boulder County will gi\'e stronger consideration to trail projects that
cOlmect to existing commllllity tr~ils on county open sp~ce properties and regioll~1 trails.
and trails that ~re recommended in m~nagemelll plans. Trails th~t sen'e prim~rily a 10c~1
popul~tion are not likely to be considered for funding through the Bonlder County P~rks
~nd Open Space CIP. Please list projects numbered in order of priority. e\'en if you ha\'e
submitted them in a pre\'ious ye~r. Refer to the 2009 COlIlllllll/i~\' Trail Request.s -
Sl/lIIlIIary al/d Staws Report for responses to 2009 requests.

I. Harney ILastoka & South Boulder Road Crossing or Underpass: With a
crossing at South Boulder Road a connection would be made from the Coal Creek
regional trail and Harney/Lastoka Uointly owned) to Hecla Lake (Louisville) and
Waneka Lake (Lafayette) open space and trails systems. This connection would
be possible following the "future" trail (in green) which will be constructed within
the next one to two years. This would also provide safe crossing from the future
Louisville Fast Tracks Station to areas in Louisville and Lafayette. Cost of South
Boulder Road Crossing: from $20,000 (crossing) to $500,000 (underpass).

Status: Undelpasses are outside the nUlding scope of Boulder COIUlty Parks and Open Space CIP.

#1 HarneylLastoka & South
Boulder Road Underpass

. _..

.. ~.'~ -
,

-.

.. ,

,

..

,

.'

Lnt.)y".oU.o

#2 Callahan Trail link to
Hecla and Waneka Lakes

Soulh BOlild~r:Rd
III - -~." .

h

2. Callahan Trail Link to Hecla Lake and Waneka Lake: This link is located
north of South Boulder Road and west of96 Street (State Highway 42). The total
trail length would be between 2,000 and 3,000 feet depending on the route. To
complete this trail connection a crossing of 96.h Street (2a) and the Burlington
Northern and Santa Fe Railroad (2b) would be advised. The proposed trail
segment (with underpasslcrossing improvements) would connect Hecla Lake,
Waneka Lake and the regional Coal Creek trail to Callahan Uointly owned). This
proposed trail segment is on the City of Louisville's Comprehensive Plan Update
and is also a Tier 2 (second priority) trail for Lafayette. Louisville will share in
costs and has already acquired land for much of the east-west portion of the trail
along the irrigation ditches. The Indian Peaks Filing 17 (at the SW corner of
Baseline and 95.h Street) indicates another east-west trail corridor north of this
proposal that could also be used to make this connection. Trail Cost: between
$20,000 and $30,000.
