Minutes - page 2
August 2, 1977

KGNU RADIO REQUEST

Mr. Glen Gerber representing Boulder
Communitcation Broadcast Association gave
a presentation to Council on their request
to install a 110 foot tower on Lafayette
property which sets adjacent to the pro-
perty where the Louisville filter plant
is located.
He gave a bried outline of the plans for
the station and stated that the building
will belong to them; however, the tower
will belong to Boulder County. Mr. Gerber
stated that KGNU is looking for endorse-
ment and involvement from the City.
Council brought up the sight factor, stating
that the tower would be an eye soar to per-
sons in northern Louisville and also the
main factor is the security of the filter
plant.
Mr. Gerber stated that there would be max-
imum security as they did not want persons
around the tower either.
Mr. Gerber presented a slide presentation
on the sight of the tower.
Council asked if there was any other place
to put the tower.
He stated that this was the location that
the National Bureau of Standards came up
with.
Councilman DelPizzo asked if the city would
be able to use the tower, and also why
the City was not informed earlier as to the
plans.
Mr. Gerber stated that in talking with the
fire department, they are under VHF and the
County is under UHF, so there would have to
be some changes for the City to use the
tower; about theplant, the tower was being
planned on Lafayette property and that is
where the negotiations were discussed.
Councilman Domenico stated that he feel
the County is trying to dump the tower on
the City and he did not appreciate it.
Councilman Caranci asked why the Planning
Commission turned it down.
Councilman DiCarlo stated that they felt
it an eye soar for future development and
also the filter plant security factor.

After discussion Councilman DelPizzo moved
that the City defer voting on the tower
until the owner of the tower, radio station
resentatives and City staff get together
to discuss possibilities of the City
utilizing the tower and building.
