SWIMMING POOL HOURS CONTID

Councilman DiCarlo stated he was all in
favor of the swim team, but he could not
see revolving all the hours around them.
the swim team has the pool 3 hours each
day, 15 hours per week, and the pool
is only open 35 hours a week. If the swim
lessons are added to the 15 hours, you split
it up 35 hours, closed to the people who
are paying taxes, to 35 hours to the people
who can use it.
Mr. He1art said the swim team hours were
selected because they are the most unpop-
ular and unattractive hours for the pool
operation. If the pool were open to the
public each morning at 7:00 A.M. in all
probab1ity no one would come until 9:00 A.M.
My reason for this is we start our swimming
lessons at 9:00 A.M. and they are the first
sessions. The most popular hours are 10:00
and 11:00 A.M.
Councilman DiCarlo suggested the he was not
saying the pool should be opened at 7:00 A.M.
to the public; but that a minimun of 8 hours
a day the pool should be opened to the public
perhaps 11:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. or 10:00 A.M.
to 6:00 P.M.
Mr. He1art reiterated they would be willing
to open it from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and
from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., if this sounds
reasona1be. The schedule is based on past
3 years demand hours by the public. The
staff is on an hourly rate of pay and if
there is no one in the pool for even an hour
or so, this becomes a budgetary problem and
consequently the pool is closed.
Councilman DiCarlo related he was aware
there were staffing problems but he would
like to ask a favor - could you give me
some dates of the surrounding areas on when
their outdoor pools are open and when they
close?
Mr. He1art stated he could get the requested
information for him.
Councilman McDonald askedif - you have 7:00
to 9:00 A.M. every morning for the swim team
what would be the posibi1ity of having even
only one morning a week open to the public
for the people who do like to swim early?
Mr. He1art's reply was there hasn't been a
demand for public swimming at this time in
the morning, but if Council wished and there
was a demand, certainly they would be happy
to comply.
Councilman McDonald then remarked that when
some people get off work at 5:00 P.M. maybe

-5-
