Over 80
candidates have applied for the position. The next steps in the process are to
review finalists and schedule interviews. The process, although has taken more
time than expected, has been a very thorough process in order to find the right fit
for the Library and City.
Council and board members inquired about the statistics involving Superior
residents. Schumm indicated that there has been an increase in circulation from
Superior residents. Schumm also discussed the current trends in libraries
including a central desk, Dewey free shelving system, and transition to a
bookstore atmosphere. The Library summer reading program at this time has
been an incredible success.
Councilors suggested an exploration of an exemption of the rules on meeting
only within the City limits for appropriate advisory boards and commissions.
Currently, any group larger than 2 people cannot meet outside the city limits. A
review of the charter to consider if the intention of the rule was to narrow to
meeting only in Louisville was suggested.
City Manager’s Report
Fleming discussed the upcoming resident survey. Subsequent communication
with residents will follow the survey. A councilor suggested providing a
comparison to the tax structure of other cities. Fleming then provided an
overview of the Budget Retreat Session scheduled for June 23, 2009.
Agenda Items for next meeting June – None
Adjourn – 8:04 p.m.
Submitted by Rhonda Welborn
June 12, 2009
