Open Space Advisory Board
Minutes
June 14, 2023
David asked for follow up about the OSAB discussion about trail slow zones and network etiquette from
several months ago. Adam replied that Ginger was working on an etiquette signage campaign. Adam
added that a lot of complaints from citizens are about e-bikes on the trails. Susan said that she has a
friend who was legally using an a -bike on an open space trail and was accosted by an angry fellow -user
who said a -bikes were not allowed, using the old signage on the property as evidence. She thought the
network needs new signs that reflect more recent regulations. Michiko told the board that on June 27th
there will be an electric bike event in Louisville, where people can try them out.
Helen asked for a wayfinding update. Adam said the consultant has finished the trail map work and
closed out the contract.
7. Michiko asked if adults
could go too, and Susan thought so.
The committee has gotten involved in advocating for the city's Dark Skies Initiative. It is concerned
about the impact of lights on nocturnal pollinators and their predators.
The committee is working with Ginger, pending Abby's approval, to include an article in the City
Community Update about resources for planting and landscaping to support native pollinators in the
City.
David asked if there would be a sign for Bee City USA near the town entrance. Adam said it should
happen soon.
Helen reported that the committee has been brainstorming about education tie-ins with Open Space
educational programming.
Susan is designing a library makerspace activity where children can make paper impregnated with native
seeds that can be planted.
