August 2023 Louisville Cultural Council Staff Report — Erica Schmitt Art Grants 2020 Art Grants: • Art grant evaluation still pending from Dona Laurita. 2022 Art Grants: • Grace Gee's Art Grant project "Bubbling Up" completed. Evaluation form attached. 2023 Art Grants: Projects must be completed between March 1, 2023 and July 31, 2024. • "Not All Men" songwriting workshops and performance showcase series for women, LGBTQ+, and gender -diverse folks concluded on August 13, 2023. • Ambient Experience concluded on June 11, 2023. • Soul Penny Circus concluded on June 17, 2023. Evaluation form has been requested repeatedly. Per contract, final check will be sent upon receipt of evaluation form. • Motus Theater is confirmed for Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023 at the Arts Center. • Updates pending from Celebrate EDU. Public Art "Community Resilience" by artists Rita Vali and Arabella Tattershall (City Hall sculpture) • Artists have identified a structural engineer who can help them ensure that the sculpture will not tip over. The sculpture is approx. 8' tall, with an additional 2' height from the metal bird nest; weight unknown at the time of writing. Artists are working with the City to set up boxes at the Library and Rec. Center to collect community words about "resilience". "Heart of the Community" by artist Darla Okada (Library Plaza mural) Is projected to finish by August 31, 2023. There will be a small Library event on August 27 with freeze pops as a way to engage patrons with the new Plaza and the art. "South Street Sculpture" by artist Greg Fields (South Street pedestrian underpass) • Requested carryover of LRC funds • Sculpture placement is not confirmed. Sharon is working on: o Railroad protective liability insurance o Adjustment of the City's lease • Sculpture would still need to go through public notice, an LCC vote, or City Council approval
