August 2023 <br />Louisville Cultural Council <br />Staff Report — Erica Schmitt <br />Art Grants <br />2020 Art Grants: <br />• Art grant evaluation still pending from Dona Laurita. <br />2022 Art Grants: <br />• Grace Gee's Art Grant project "Bubbling Up" completed. Evaluation form attached. <br />2023 Art Grants: Projects must be completed between March 1, 2023 and July 31, 2024. <br />• "Not All Men" songwriting workshops and performance showcase series for women, LGBTQ+, <br />and gender -diverse folks concluded on August 13, 2023. <br />• Ambient Experience concluded on June 11, 2023. <br />• Soul Penny Circus concluded on June 17, 2023. Evaluation form has been requested repeatedly. <br />Per contract, final check will be sent upon receipt of evaluation form. <br />• Motus Theater is confirmed for Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023 at the Arts Center. <br />• Updates pending from Celebrate EDU. <br />Public Art <br />"Community Resilience" by artists Rita Vali and Arabella Tattershall (City Hall sculpture) <br />• Artists have identified a structural engineer who can help them ensure that the sculpture will <br />not tip over. The sculpture is approx. 8' tall, with an additional 2' height from the metal bird <br />nest; weight unknown at the time of writing. <br />Artists are working with the City to set up boxes at the Library and Rec. Center to collect <br />community words about "resilience". <br />"Heart of the Community" by artist Darla Okada (Library Plaza mural) <br />Is projected to finish by August 31, 2023. <br />There will be a small Library event on August 27 with freeze pops as a way to engage patrons <br />with the new Plaza and the art. <br />"South Street Sculpture" by artist Greg Fields (South Street pedestrian underpass) <br />• Requested carryover of LRC funds <br />• Sculpture placement is not confirmed. Sharon is working on: <br />o Railroad protective liability insurance <br />o Adjustment of the City's lease <br />• Sculpture would still need to go through public notice, an LCC vote, or City Council approval <br />
