RESOLUTION NO. 57 <br />SERIES 2023 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE LOUISVILLE CITY COUNCIL IN SUPPORT OF BOULDER <br />COUNTY ISSUE 1A AT THE NOVEMBER 7, 2023 ELECTION CONCERNING OPEN <br />SPACE SALES AND USE TAX EXTENSION AND REVENUE CHANGE <br />WHEREAS, the Louisville City Council supports Boulder County Issue 1A Open <br />Space Sales and Use Tax Extension and Revenue Change, a proposal to extend for <br />fifteen years the existing 0.05% countywide sales and use tax for the purpose of <br />acquiring, improving, managing and maintaining open space lands and other open <br />space property interests; and <br />WHEREAS, the Open Space Sales and Use Tax Extension does not represent a <br />new tax or a tax increase, but rather an extension of an existing tax; and <br />WHEREAS, Boulder County owns and manages 76,000 acres of open space β€” <br />which includes 26,000 acres of active agricultural land β€”and manages over 40,000 <br />acres of conservation easements on private land; and <br />WHEREAS, if passed by voters, the tax extension will support open space <br />maintenance, including updating amenities and signs, improving trail surfaces, <br />preserving native vegetation, creeks restoration, preserving wildlife habitat, and <br />maintaining the overall ecological health of open space lands; and <br />WHEREAS, if passed by voters, the tax extension will fund Boulder County's <br />efforts to continue best practices for wildfire mitigation, including mowing, grazing, and <br />healthy forest projects; and <br />WHEREAS, if passed by voters, the tax extension will promote and support local <br />agriculture on lands owned by Boulder County Parks and Open Space for that purpose, <br />specifically continuing to improve and expand soil health, organic farming, and efficient <br />agricultural water use; and <br />WHEREAS, if passed by voters, the tax extension will provide funds to acquire <br />priority high -value properties for open space when they become available, including <br />requests from our towns and cities for more acquisitions around their municipal <br />boundaries, 25 priority irrigation ditches, and much -needed trail connections. <br />WHEREAS, state law allows the City Council to adopt this resolution as a <br />statement of City Council's position of support for the adoption of Ballot Issue 1A. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF LOUISVILLE, COLORADO, the Louisville City Council supports Boulder County <br />Issue 1A Open Space Sales and Use Tax Extension and Revenue Change and urges <br />voters to vote yes on November 7. <br />Resolution No. 57, Series 2023 <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />
