Decarbonization Implementation Plan I Existing Energy & Emissions
Energy vs Carbon
Energy use and carbon emissions are sometimes used
interchangeably, but they are quite different. Carbon emissions
come from burning fossil fuels -those burnt fossil fuels provide
energy to buildings. Energy can also be provided to buildings via
zero -carbon sources, such as renewables.
The City of Louisville participates in programs to offset their
existing electrical consumption with renewable sources. Therefore,
for the purposes of this study the total carbon emissions at
Louisville will be solely driven by on -site fossil fuel combustion
and emissions associated with electric consumption will be zero.
Energy End -Use
Building Gas
Building gas makes
up almost 50%of
Louisville's annual energy
Building Electricity
Fleet Gas
Equipment Gas
Fossil Fuel Carbon Emission End -Use
Buildinc
Louis
Total
Energ
4-6%
Cooling
1-3%
Fans+Pumps
• 4-6%
Lighting
1-2%
Plug
I 35-40%
Miscellaneous Building Energy
(Process, pool heating, etc.)
1-2% Domestic Hot Water
1-2% Kitchen
Space heating
35-40% Heating is the primary
energy end -use
for Louisville
12-15% Fleet
3-5% Miscellaneous
4-6%
Library
8-10%
City Services The Recreation
& Senior Center
accounts for
50-55%
Recreation & more than 50
Senior Center
of Louisville
emissions
Police & Municipal Court
City Hall
Art Center (+ Pool)
18-22 %
Coal Creek Golf Course
_2 %
Sid Copeland Treatment Plant
per facility
Howard Berry Treatment Plant
Wastewater Treatment Plant
12-15%
Fleet
3-5%
Miscellaneous
CITY OF LOUISVILLE I FINAL REPORT V3 1 INTERNAL DECARBONIZATION PLAN 110
23
