It also amends Title 15 of <br />the Louisville Municipal Code to prohibit the construction of a new gasoline station or the expansion, reconstruction, <br />or relocation of an existing gasoline service station within 2 2 miles of an existing gasoline service station. <br />INITIATIVE ORDINANCE <br />This petition requests that the ordinance presented be submitted to a vote of the people if not passed by the City <br />Council (City Charter Article 7). The ordinance reads as follows. <br />Ordinance No. XXX, Series 202X <br />ORDINANCE PROHIBITING NEW GASOLINE SERVICE STATIONS IN THE CITY OF <br />LOUISVILLE <br />WHEREAS, the combustion of fossil fuels such as gasoline is the primary driver of anthropogenic climate change; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, approximately one fifth of Louisville's greenhouse gas emissions stem from the combustion of fossil <br />fuels for transportation; and <br />WHEREAS, according to the scientific consensus on climate change, a rapid reduction in greenhouse gas emissions <br />is necessary to mitigate the effects of climate change; and <br />WHEREAS, the effects of climate change are already severely impacting communities worldwide, including <br />Louisville; and <br />WHEREAS, the City's Resolution Number 25 Series 2019 and the City's Sustainability Action Plan call for <br />"reduc[ing] core community greenhouse gas emissions annually below the 2016 baseline through 2030"; and <br />16 <br />1 Initiative Petition Section Number <br />
