City Council <br />Study Session Summary <br />July 6, 2009 <br />Page 3 of 4 <br />OFF PREMISE SIGNAGE <br />Members discussed the sign code that prohibits off premise signage for <br />Louisville. Increased visibility is beneficial to the City and would provide more <br />exposure to tax generators. Louisville should ensure quality before quantity, and <br />consider generic signage. Members expressed concern that allowing signs off <br />premise for businesses would change the character of Louisville. A generic sign <br />with a “Shop Louisville” venue would capture US 36 traffic. Members discussed <br />concerns of third party agreements that leave out the City, as well as taking care <br />Members requested work on a <br />not to promote one business over another. <br />proposal to be considered by the City. <br />FIBER OPTIC SERVICE AT CTC <br />Freeman discussed the advantages of having a Fiber Optic ring through CTC. <br />The ring would promote the park and attract companies. Providing a fiber ring in <br />the CTC area would provide a marketplace advantage and retain business. <br />Companies consider internet connection and power when deciding on a location. <br />Freeman encouraged the City to collaborate in discussions with Level 3, and take <br />advantage of current Dillon Road construction. Another possibility would be to <br />offer rebates. Out of state companies are looking at the CTC corridor area, but <br />at this time buildings elsewhere are easier to finance and provides fiber optics to <br />businesses. <br />FITZSIMMONS/ANSCHUTZ FIELD TRIP <br />Purpose would be to gather information and facts and review a location where a <br />large employer built a campus. Meeting will be posted for the public. The field <br />rd <br />trip is scheduled for approximately 2 hours. September 3, Thursday, was <br />th <br />selected as the primary date, with September 17 as a back up date. Bonnie <br />will poll members as to their preferences. <br />RETENTION VISIT REPORTS <br /> ITEA Concilor Dalton summarized the visit to ITEA, They are interested <br />in providing a presentation to educate the community. <br /> Fastenal – This is hardware store located in CTC, Deb noted they are <br />happy in Louisville, but expressed some concerns about internet speed <br />and desired better snow plow response. <br /> Empire – Bonnie passed on their desire to hold Thursday night happy <br />hours for specific Louisville businesses to get their name out and make <br />the connection between employers and downtown. <br /> Medtronics – postponed. <br /> <br />
