Memorandum To: Historical Commission Members From: Meredyth Muth, Public Relations Manager Date: July 15, 2008 Re: Agenda Item VII - Written Report Budget Update The City Manager has informed staff that sales tax and use fees are coming in well below the 2009 budget numbers and staff has been asked to reduce expenditures for the remainder of the year by 10% (more if possible). The immediate impact on the museum is that the projecUsupply budget for the remainder of the year has been cut by $400. Should additional funds be needed this year, staff may come the Commission to consider helping to pay for needed materials. The painting and maintenance projects at the museum are still included in the 2009 budget. We have started working on the budget for 2010 and impacts to the museum will include: . No additional staff positions in 2010. . The 2010 Capital budget has been through its first round of reviews and the museum signage proposal did not make the cut. However, at this time the museum maintenance budget is likely to be included in the 2010 budget. The City is currently conducting a survey to ask residents about their thoughts on possible new revenue sources (taxes or fees) to help offset the budget losses. No decisions have been made, and I will keep you informed about this as the 2010 budget process moves forward. Facility Update The City's Facility Maintenance Supervisor continues to work on the list of maintenance issues at the museum and plans to have the list completed this year. A request for proposals from painting companies is expected to be put out in the next few weeks. The painting will include lead abatement on the Tomeo House.
