Library Board of Trustees
Minutes
August 19, 2009
Page 2 oE2

At the conclusion of the discussion, Meredith volunteered to prepare the Board's
revision of the ordinance, as well as appropriate revisions to the Board's bylaws. These
will be discussed at the next meeting, during the week of September 20 (date to be
determined).

VIII. Director's Report

A. Statistics

In addition to the standard monthly statistics, Aimee distributed final Summer Reading
Program statistics. Teen and Adult program attendance was up, but Children's programs
saw a 3.9% drop-from 969 in 2008 to 931 this year. The number of children from
Superior participating was down from 26% in 2008 (252) to 19.6% this year (182).
However, the number of Louisville children increased from 577 in 2008 (59.6%) to 602
this year (64.7%)

B. Library Budget Cuts

Aimee noted that Malcolm, department directors, and City Council have been working
to reduce the 2009 budget to compensate for a 7% decline in sales tax revenue. The
2010 budget will also be cut.

Aimee explained the process that has been ongoing for several weeks whereby cuts have
been categorized into four areas: A, B, C, and D. Items in the last category are those
that were evaluated but are not recommended. Items in the first category are those
that have been or soon will be implemented. One item on the "A" list was privatizing
Memory Square Pool, saving the City approximately $50,000 annually. City Council did
not approve this recommendation, therefore $50,000 will have to come from a
combination of other budget cuts and increased revenue sources.

Aimee reviewed proposed cuts to the Library budget for 2009. She also noted that it is
not clear yet how the budget reductions for 2010 will be impacted by payment from the
Town of Superior, which is due in January 2010.

C. Donated Artwork

Aimee noted that a long-time donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, has given a
bronze sculpture to the Library. The Board had the opportunity to see the work,
entitled "The Page Turner," which will be placed on exhibit, probably on the new book
display area in the lobby. The artist, Karryl, will be at the Library for an Open House on
September 12, and she will demonstrate her art of sculpting and bronze-making. It is
unclear at this time whether the Library Foundation has anything planned in conjunction
with or in addition to this open house.

IX. Discussion Items for Next Meeting: September 22 or 23, 2009

A. Ordinance Review & By-laws Revision
B. Director's Report

X. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 pm.

City of Louisville
Public Lbrary:: 951 Spruce Street:: Louisville, CO 80027
303-335-4815 :: 303-335-4833 (fax) :: www.louisville-library.gov
